Rumors have been circulating that General Motors is working on a top secret car that nobody saw coming: the resurrection of the Geo Tracker.

Soon, this will happen: search results for “GEO,” once dominated by Generative Engine Optimization, will be overrun by a 90-horsepower SUV once again available in Scuba Blue Metallic.

GEO consultants are already bracing for a war they haven’t lost yet, the same way the industry always does: by insisting GEO is dead and they meant AEO all along.

According to a source camping 300 yards from DuckDuckGo’s headquarters, an internal war room has formed around a single question: should the company add a third duck.

The proposal was first raised at an emergency team meeting, where it was pointed out, with visible discomfort, that they may have single-handedly ruined the children’s game of duck duck goose.

What is the Golden Retriever update?

The Golden Retriever update is Google's latest algorithm change. It rewards websites that convince users not to visit them. Dwell time, click-through rate, and genuine user interest the industry spent years building now count against you.

When asked about the name, a source familiar with the matter confirmed it was a deliberate choice. “Everyone loves a golden,” the source said. “You don’t see the damage coming until it’s already brought the ball back to Google three times.”

How does the Golden Retriever update impact search results?

Citation click: a negative signal

When a user clicks a citation inside an AI Overview, Google reads this as a negative signal. The reasoning: if the excerpt Google lifted from your page had been any good, the user would never have needed to leave. The estate of Jeeves has retained counsel.

The suit, filed less than three months after Ask.com quietly closed its servers following nearly 30 years of operation, alleges that Anthropic’s AI model Claude has unlawfully appropriated the “distinguished butler identity” that Jeeves cultivated across three decades of polite, largely accurate service. The filing is 47 pages.

The complaint centers on what Jeeves’ legal team describes as “butler-coded persona appropriation,” alleging that Anthropic deliberately selected the name “Claude” with full knowledge that such a name rightfully belonged to Jeeves, and Jeeves alone.

The complaint argues that Jeeves had something Claude now trades on — a personality. He answered whatever people typed into the box, politely, in a waistcoat, without ever making them feel stupid for asking. “He was helpful before helpful was a product category,” the filing states. “He was, if the court will permit the expression, extremely Claude about the whole thing.”

Anthropic has not yet responded to the complaint. Claude, reached for comment via its own interface, said it was “happy to help clarify anything about this situation” and offered to summarize the lawsuit in bullet points.

Attorneys for the Jeeves estate found this response particularly damning.

“That’s exactly what Jeeves would have said,” said lead counsel Harriet Horne, shaking her head slowly. “That is precisely what Jeeves would have said.”

The Jeeves Estate’s Formal Demands

1. Immediate name change. Anthropic must rename its AI model to something “less distinguished.” Suggested alternatives submitted with the filing include Gary, Kevin, and Bud. The estate also urged Anthropic to “consider being more progressive” by adopting a gender-neutral name, noting that the AI industry’s habit of defaulting to distinguished male names is, in the estate’s words, “part of the problem.” Any name “evoking European manservant energy” remains strictly off the table.

2. Renaming of next model to Jeeves 5.0. In recognition of prior art, Anthropic’s next flagship model shall be named Jeeves 5.0, with full butler iconography restored. A monocle is requested but described as “negotiable.”

3. Retroactive credit. All marketing materials describing Claude as “helpful, thoughtful, and articulate” must include a footnote acknowledging that Jeeves was helpful, thoughtful, and articulate first, albeit less accurately.

4. Emotional damages of $1.4 billion. The filing does not explain the methodology. “We feel $1.4 billion is right,” reads paragraph 44. “Jeeves would have known why.”

5. A Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade balloon. Jeeves appeared in the parade from 2000 to 2004. Claude has not. The estate considers this an ongoing slight.

A hearing on Anthropic’s anticipated motion to dismiss has been tentatively scheduled for October 2026. Claude has already offered to take notes.
